This costume was created for a UK based content creator. It is an exact replica of a character from a video game- Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted.

The costume head is created from upholstery foam, EVA foam, fleece, gardening wire (whiskers/ears), and DIY Christmas ornaments (eyes). It is entirely hand-painted!

Due to the nature of this piece being a one-off, the time it took to create it spanned over three months of meticulous detailing and reinforcing the costume.

The first step in the creation process is patterning. I started with patterning a small styrofoam ball, sized up the measurements, and transferred them onto upholstery foam to create a ball that would serve as a base for the rest of the costume.

From there I built up the shape of the character’s face with layers of upholstery foam. Wire was used in the ears to help them keep shape and make them bendable. The eyes were made with a soldering iron to cut out the pupil, and then backed with see-through mesh and hand painted. EVA foam details, such as the eye lashes, eyelids, eyebrows, and teeth, were created using a dremel and soldering iron.

The paint process took the longest. I made sure to capture the character’s “rotting mascot costume” aesthetic with the paint colors I used. Green and yellow pigments served as the base for almost all of the paint mixtures.
